The quality of the road link between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Manresa has been significantly enhanced by the commissioning of three new sections of the Eix Diagonal, which along 67 kilometres links the towns of Manresa, Igualada, Vilafranca del Penedès and Vilanova. This new road link substantially improves the communications between the 25 municipal districts that it crosses.

The works began in March 2010, with an ITS Budget of €3.55 million. The link has been built in sections by six independent technical teams working simultaneously, enabling the infrastructure to be completed two months ahead of the scheduled date (31 January 2012).

The works include project design, construction, ITS supply, assembly, wiring and commissioning
